Ekantएकांत

Ekant — Sanskrit for solitude. The work Rahul Ghai makes alone: art, sound, stillness, movement. Some of it is made by hand and some by machines that were taught to make it. None of it holds still for a photograph.

Everything here was made in solitude.

Ekant is not a studio with a staff or a company with a plan. It is one person's practice — the things that get made when nobody is watching, kept in one place so they can be found.

The work runs rather than sits. Most of it is generated, seeded, and never resolves the same way twice, so the only honest way to show it is to let it happen in front of you.

The work

The rest of it is still being made.

A specimen

This is not an illustration of the work — it is a piece of it, generating while you read. Nothing about it is recorded, and it will not make this shape again.

On working alone

एकांत is one word for two things: being by yourself, and the place you go to be. The work here comes from the second. It is made without an audience in the room, which is why it does not perform — it simply carries on, and you are welcome to stand and watch.
